Mr. Gillenwater is an interdisciplinary environmental scientist and the lead GIS analyst at WWR. His primary responsibilities include: project coordination and management, aquatic ecosystem restoration design, coordinating and performing biological and physical ( topography/bathymetry, hydrology, and water quality) data collection and analysis, GIS data generation, analysis, and management, and cartography. Many of the projects Dan has managed have involved extensive coordination between several participating entities, including clients, community stakeholders, government agencies, and subcontractors.

 

Mr. Gillenwater has over 10 years of experience in the field of aquatic sciences and ecosystem restoration. In his 8 years at WWR he has been the project manager and primary environmental scientist for several ecosystem restoration and enhancement projects including the USFWS’ Tolay Creek and Lower Tubbs Island Marsh Enhancement Project, the City of Hercules’ Chelsea Wetland Restoration Project, and the Richardson Bay Audubon Sanctuary’s Aramburu Island Restoration Project. Dan was the director of field data collection for The Suisun Low DO and MeHg Project, a large-scale ecosystem monitoring project involving the collection and analysis of water quality, biological, and hydrological data. Dan has also had significant experience in preparing and reviewing CEQA documents (EIR, IS/MND, Cat Ex, etc.) and permit applications for a variety of projects.

 

Prior to working at WWR, Dan studied aquatic ecosystem ecology and ecological engineering at The Ohio State University. As a research associate at Ohio State he contributed to river and wetland restoration projects throughout Ohio and worked on a team that developed and studied a pilot-scale wastewater treatment wetland system at the Ohio State dairy farm. As an intern with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Dan worked with engineers and geologists on abandoned coal mine reclamation projects in western and northern Pennsylvania.
